Unexpected Price Hike in Quetta Ahead of Ramadan, Citizens Urge Immediate Action

Quetta:In an unexpected turn of events, food prices in Quetta have witnessed a significant surge ahead of the holy month of Ramadan, causing severe difficulties for the citizens. Prices of essential items such as sugar, ghee, meat, and other basic foodstuffs have been rising continuously, leaving the public struggling.

According to sources, delays in the clearance of edible oil have forced importers to pay millions of dollars in demurrage charges, leading to concerns that ghee and cooking oil prices may increase even further. Dealers in ghee and edible oils have warned that without prompt government intervention, prices could rise drastically during Ramadan.

Citizens have appealed to Balochistan’s Chief Minister, Mir Sardarfaraz Bugti, and Quetta’s Commissioner to take immediate measures to control the soaring prices and activate the price control committee. They emphasized that the rising cost of living is particularly affecting the poor and middle-class families, making it imperative for the government to take stern actions to stabilize prices.

In addition, there is growing uncertainty in the market due to a potential strike by customs agents on the 22nd of February, which could further impact the prices of food items. Citizens are urging the government to intervene swiftly to ensure that the public is relieved during the upcoming Ramadan season.
