CM Balochistan Sets Clear Deadlines for PSDP Projects and Urges Immediate Action
Quetta: Chief Minister Balochistan Mir Sardar Farooq Baloch has directed the timely completion of ongoing projects under the Public Sector Development Program (PSDP) by June 2024, emphasizing no tolerance for delays. He also stressed addressing the slow pace of federal development fund disbursement for Balochistan.*
During a meeting at the Chief Minister Secretariat, CM Balochistan reviewed the implementation and progress of PSDP projects. The meeting highlighted concerns over delays in the release of federal funds allocated for Balochistan’s development. Minister for Planning and Development, Mir Zahoor Ahmed Beladi, briefed the CM on the situation, prompting him to immediately write to the Prime Minister regarding the delay.
The CM has instructed all relevant departments to provide detailed information about the release of federal funds, including for major projects such as the Kachhi Canal, to ensure a comprehensive and well-founded letter is sent to the Prime Minister.
Moreover, the CM emphasized accelerating the pace of development projects, ensuring their timely completion, and adhering strictly to clear timelines. He mandated that 90% of the work on all projects must be completed by June of the current fiscal year. He also directed the Finance Department to ensure the prompt disbursement of funds for approved projects, with any delays being unacceptable.
A committee led by Minister Zahoor Beladi was formed to improve financial regulations to overcome barriers in the release of funds. The committee is expected to submit its recommendations within a week.
The CM also expressed his dissatisfaction with the lack of progress in the forest department’s projects and instructed strict action against any officers showing a lack of commitment.
Highlighting the importance of developing long-term policies for the province’s growth, the CM said that future budgets would prioritize all approved schemes to avoid delays in development work and ensure the effective use of public resources. He further directed the creation of comprehensive plans for improving the living standards of minorities and bringing greener public transport options like the Green and Pink buses.
Lastly, the CM urged the creation of a detailed roadmap for the province’s development, with a report due within ten days, which will be enhanced through consultations to ensure sustainable and lasting development for the people of Balochistan.
