BNP Condemns Peca Act and Other Black Laws, Pledges Support for Press and Human Rights

QUETTA:The Balochistan National Party (BNP) has strongly condemned the approval of the Peca Act and other “black laws” in a recent statement, calling them an infringement on freedom of expression. The party labeled these laws as a manifestation of undemocratic thinking, noting that political parties, who claim to be proponents of democracy, are facilitating their passage through parliament.

The statement expressed concern that under the current government, the people of Balochistan, particularly the brave Baloch and oppressed nations, have faced severe mistreatment, and that the Peca Act would only exacerbate these injustices and atrocities. The BNP emphasized that the Peca Act curtails human rights and freedom of expression, warning that it would impose further restrictions on political gatherings, protests, and seminars, while also conspiring against political parties and their leaders.

BNP leader Sardar Akhtar Jan Mengal has consistently opposed undemocratic laws and violations of human rights, voicing his principled stance and supporting justice. The party reiterated that any political group, directly or indirectly supporting the approval of these black laws, shares in the crime.

As a national party, the BNP vowed to continue raising its voice against undemocratic actions on every platform. Furthermore, the party reaffirmed its unwavering support for the journalist community, pledging to stand by them, just as it has in the past, in their times of difficulty.
