ICC Announces Men’s Emerging Cricketer of the Year: Kamindu Mendis

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the winner of the prestigious Men’s Emerging Cricketer of the Year award. The nominees for this award included Pakistan’s opening batsman, Saim Ayub, England’s fast bowler Gus Atkinson, Sri Lanka’s Kamindu Mendis, and West Indies’ Shamarh Brooks.

On Sunday, the ICC revealed that Sri Lanka’s Kamindu Mendis has been named the Men’s Emerging Cricketer of the Year.

Mendis had an outstanding year in 2024, having played a total of 32 matches across all formats, amassing 1451 runs. The 26-year-old scored an impressive 1049 runs from just 9 Test matches, including 5 centuries. His highest score during the year was an unbeaten 182 runs.

Mendis’ stellar performance in both formats of the game has earned him this well-deserved recognition.
