Social Media Platforms Compete to Attract TikTok Users with New Features

Islamabad:As TikTok’s future in the United States remains uncertain, major social media platforms are ramping up efforts to capture the attention of its millions of users by introducing new features, particularly in the video editing domain. Among these platforms, Bluesky, X (formerly Twitter), and Meta are launching fresh features to appeal to TikTok users.
**Bluesky’s Short Video Feature**
On Sunday, Bluesky, a popular social media app, unveiled a new feature focused on short videos, which includes a trending videos section. Users of Bluesky can now swipe up to view additional videos, mimicking the interface of TikTok. Moreover, users can pin their feed to the home screen or add it to their list of feeds. With this new feature, if users tap on any vertical video, they can continue scrolling down the feed, a layout similar to X.
Bluesky mentioned in a post, “We had to get in on the video action, customizing Bluesky is now up to you.” Additionally, the company has started working on alternative developers to TikTok using the Authorized Transport Protocol (ATP), with services like TikBlue, Skylight.social, BlueScreen, and Blueise currently in the testing phase.
**X and Meta Follow Suit**
Meanwhile, X (formerly Twitter) has launched a new feature in the United States for vertical videos, allowing users to discover trending video content, reflecting TikTok’s approach to content discovery.
On the other hand, Meta has introduced a new video editing app named “Edits.” This app will offer advanced video editing features similar to CapCut, with tools designed for more dynamic and creative content. The app is currently in its testing phase, and Meta plans to launch it for all users by March.
As these platforms compete for TikTok’s user base, it remains to be seen how effective these new features will be in enticing users and shaping the future of social media content creation.
