Balochistan Food Authority Takes Strong Action to Ensure Food Safety in 2024

Quetta:The Balochistan Food Authority (BFA) has released a detailed report on the measures taken in 2024 to combat substandard food and promote food safety culture. The report highlights the actions and awareness campaigns carried out by the authority throughout the year across various districts and cities of Balochistan.

According to the performance report, BFA inspected a total of 19,436 centers during 2024. The authority took strict action against the provision of substandard and adulterated food, sealing 54 units and imposing fines totaling 43.55 million rupees on 3,033 centers. Thousands of samples of items such as milk, yogurt, and cooking oil were checked on-site, and 1,459 samples were sent for laboratory analysis. Additionally, a large quantity of non-standard, adulterated, expired, and banned items were seized and destroyed.

Apart from enforcement actions, the authority conducted special awareness campaigns to educate the public and business owners on the importance of food safety. BFA organized various seminars and workshops to promote food safety, inviting individuals involved in the food business and food handlers, where they were introduced to food safety principles and the significance of providing standard food. Furthermore, BFA’s technical wing visited schools, colleges, and universities across the province, educating students and teachers about hygiene principles and the importance of choosing proper food.

Director General of Balochistan Food Authority, Atiqullah Khan, stated that with each passing year, the authority’s scope of operations is expanding. He emphasized that inspection teams are working round the clock to monitor all stages of food preparation and delivery from farm to consumer. Ensuring the provision of safe food and raising awareness about the dangers of substandard products remain top priorities. He added that the authority is actively working to ensure the supply of quality food and create public awareness, a significant step toward improving food standards and building a healthier society in the province.
