Hope for Justice Has Died in Pakistan, Says Salman Akram Raja

LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Secretary General Salman Akram Raja has expressed serious concerns over human rights violations and the arrests of political workers, saying that when people lose hope of obtaining justice, it marks the death of an entire society.

Speaking to the media in Lahore, Raja said that thousands of families across the country were suffering, with their children languishing in prisons, facing alleged torture and losing hope of justice.

He said the issue was not limited to the treatment of PTI founder Imran Khan and his family, although they were being particularly targeted. Hundreds and thousands of other families were also facing similar hardships.

“Where thousands of families have their children behind bars and the hope for justice has faded, it is not just justice that dies; the entire society faces destruction,” he said.

Raja questioned whether Pakistan would continue to be governed under laws introduced during British colonial rule.

He particularly criticised Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order (3-MPO), describing it as a black law that must be abolished. He explained that the provision allows authorities to detain an individual three times for periods of 30 days each on apprehensions of a threat to public order.

He stressed that the continuation of such laws was unacceptable and called for their abolition.

PTI Condemns Alleged Treatment of Noreen Niazi

Meanwhile, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has strongly condemned what it described as the inhumane treatment of Noreen Niazi, sister of party founder Imran Khan, following her sudden medical emergency and subsequent transfer to hospital.

In statements issued by the party spokesperson and legal team, PTI described the alleged incidents as an extreme manifestation of oppression, coercion and moral decline.

According to the party, Noreen Niazi suffered a serious cardiac complication and was immediately shifted to hospital for medical treatment. However, PTI alleged that after her arrival, police took stringent measures, locking and sealing the entrances to the intensive care unit (ICU) and hospital ward.

The party claimed that her family members were being denied access to her and that authorities were also failing to provide reliable and satisfactory information about her health condition.

PTI further alleged that the treatment of Imran Khan’s family members reflected an unprecedented level of authoritarianism and disregard for basic human values.

The party maintained that Imran Khan’s sisters, who it described as non-political family members, had already faced prolonged detention without any substantial grounds, and said that subjecting Noreen Niazi to such treatment while she was seriously ill was deeply inhumane.

The party demanded an end to what it termed political victimisation and called for respect for fundamental human rights and humanitarian considerations.
