Saudi Government Announces Public Relief Package

RIYADH (Qudrat Daily) – In Saudi Arabia, a comprehensive and historic economic and relief strategy has been announced at the government level to promote public welfare, economic stability and reduce the financial burden on citizens. The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, acting on the special proposal of Crown Prince and Prime Minister Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, has formally approved a grand and wide-ranging relief package for all citizens of the Kingdom.

According to the Saudi official news agency (SPA), this relief package has been issued alongside the announcement by the Saudi Energy and National Water Company of expected changes in electricity and water tariffs from 1 January 2027. Under the key implementation of this approved relief package, a monthly allowance of 500 Saudi riyals has been immediately increased for all civil and military personnel working under the civil service pay scales and operational programme contracts.

In addition, retired employees and the eligible heirs of deceased employees or pensioners have also been included in the scope of this allowance, while, to protect deserving families receiving social security from the economic effects of the changes in electricity and water tariffs, an additional monthly stipend of 500 riyals will also be provided to them. Revolutionary decisions have also been made in the relief package to protect the employment of Saudi citizens working in the private sector.

It has been learned that under this decision, the minimum wage limit will be raised so that it is fully counted in the quota of the Nitaqat Saudization programme. Six months after the implementation of these measures, the minimum wage will be raised to 5,000 riyals, and after 12 months it will be increased to 6,000 riyals, so that reasonable foundations can be provided for the salaries of citizens in the private sector. The primary objective of this royal measure by Saudi Arabia is to eliminate the negative effects of the expected increase in electricity and water tariffs on the purchasing power of ordinary citizens and to promote sustainable employment in the private sector.
