Maryam Nawaz Clarifies Controversial Remarks on Teacher Accused of Assaulting Child

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has clarified her controversial remarks about a schoolteacher accused of physically assaulting a child, insisting that she personally wrote the statement on social media and that it was not posted by an account administrator.

Maryam Nawaz shared a photograph on social media platform X showing the arrest of the teacher accused of assaulting the child and expressed anger over the incident.

In her post, she said the teacher should also be struck on the face with a shoe so that marks would be left, prompting discussion over her choice of words.

Responding to a user on X who questioned the statement, the chief minister clarified that the post had not been written by an administrator but by her personally.

She explained that her remarks referred to the alleged brutality of the assault, saying the teacher had repeatedly beaten the child with a shoe on the face, leaving the child in a severely distressed condition.

“I hope you understand what I meant now,” she told the user in her response.

Maryam Nawaz has repeatedly declared that women and children are her “red line” and that crimes against them will not be tolerated.

Four-Week Deadline for Police to Improve Law and Order

Separately, the Punjab chief minister has given relevant police officials four weeks to improve the law and order situation, prevent crimes against women and children, and enhance police performance across the province.

According to an official statement, a special meeting on law and order was held under her chairmanship, with regional police officers (RPOs) and district police officers (DPOs) participating through video link.

The meeting received detailed briefings on the security situation in every division and district of Punjab.

Expressing displeasure over the rising number of crimes against women and children, Maryam Nawaz directed officials to take effective measures to prevent such offences and improve overall public safety.

She warned that police officers responsible for areas where the situation failed to improve within four weeks could be removed from their posts.

The chief minister stressed the need for improved policing and effective action to protect vulnerable citizens, particularly women and children.
