QUETTA (Daily Quadrat Quetta) — The wheat crisis has taken a serious turn across Balochistan, including Quetta, while the rise in flour prices is causing difficulties for citizens. According to sources, the Balochistan government has so far not been able to buy even 100,000 bags of wheat from PASSCO, and for several months there have only been talks between the Balochistan Food Department and PASSCO regarding the purchase of wheat.
Meanwhile, market sources say the price of a 20 kg bag of flour in Quetta has reached Rs3,330, while in Khuzdar, Chagai, Washuk, Kech and other districts a 50 kg bag of flour has exceeded Rs8,000. Rising flour prices are further increasing the economic pressure on citizens.
In this regard, the Secretary of Food Balochistan said talks are ongoing for the purchase of wheat from PASSCO. According to him, determining flour prices and ensuring implementation of the fixed rates is the responsibility of the Department of Industries and Commerce and the deputy commissioners.
