PTCL Retired Employees Deprived of Pension for Eight Months; Elderly Pensioners and Their Families Face Unbearable Hardship

Quetta (Power Daily) — Retired employees of Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) have been suffering severe financial hardship due to the non-payment of pensions for the past eight months, while the suspension of pensions has made life unbearable for elderly pensioners and their families. Due to the prolonged non-payment of pensions, numerous families are facing severe difficulties in meeting household expenses, paying their children’s educational fees, purchasing medicines, and fulfilling daily necessities.
According to the affected retired employees, they spent the precious years of their lives in the service of the institution and fulfilled their responsibilities in the best possible manner during their employment; however, after retirement, the non-payment of pensions has left them in severe distress. They say that for them, pension is not an additional facility but the primary means of livelihood, through which they meet household expenses, their children’s needs, and medical treatment costs.
The employees say that due to not receiving pensions for eight months, a situation resembling hunger is emerging in their homes. For many families, paying for rations, electricity and gas bills, and other basic necessities has become difficult, while the risk also looms that children’s education will be affected due to school and college fees not being deposited on time.
