Constitution Provides Several Grounds for Banning PTI, Says Talal Chaudhry

ISLAMABAD:Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry has said that the Constitution provides several provisions that could be invoked in connection with a possible ban on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
In a statement, Talal Chaudhry said the government did not want to take such a step while a political government was in power. He added that the government had also been reluctant to impose governor’s rule.
The minister reiterated that the Constitution contained numerous provisions relating to a possible ban on PTI.
He further alleged that PTI had failed to treat terrorism as a serious issue over the past 14 years.
Referring to the party’s leadership and governance, Chaudhry said that handing over the entire government to individuals such as those associated with Adiala Jail, Bani Gala or Murad Saeed would lead to similar outcomes.
His remarks come amid ongoing political tensions over governance and security in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the federal government’s approach towards PTI.
