Any Unconstitutional, Undemocratic Interference in Governor’s Rule, Emergency and Public Mandate in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Will Not Be Accepted

Islamabad (Qudrat Daily): A two-day joint meeting of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Political Committee and Core Committee was held, in which a detailed review was conducted of the country’s overall political and constitutional situation, the imposition of emergency and governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, actions against the elected provincial government, arrests of party leadership and workers, political victimization, government allegations regarding terrorism, and the fundamental rights of PTI Chairman Imran Khan and other political prisoners.

The meeting unanimously rejected the October 11 actions, particularly the imposition of emergency and governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the establishment of a council, and moves to deactivate or dissolve the people’s elected provincial government, terming them unconstitutional, undemocratic and a serious attack on the public mandate.

According to a press release issued by PTI’s media department on X, the meeting took the position that deactivating or dissolving an elected provincial government on political grounds is tantamount to reviving the dictatorial style of governance of the past and powers akin to the abrogated Article 58(2)(b) of the Constitution.

Such actions are contrary to the supremacy of the Constitution, the federal system, provincial autonomy and democratic principles.

The meeting took a firm position that PTI will not accept, under any circumstances, the emergency, governor’s rule and actions taken against the elected provincial government, and that strong voices will be raised against them on all constitutional, legal, parliamentary and peaceful public forums.

The meeting strongly condemned the abduction, illegal detention and arrests of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister, the Speaker of the Provincial Assembly, provincial ministers, MPAs and other elected representatives, and demanded their immediate recovery, protection of their legal rights and action against those responsible.

The meeting expressed serious concern that targeting elected representatives on the basis of political differences is a grave violation of the principles of democratic institutions, provincial autonomy and public representation.

The meeting also expressed serious concern over the ongoing matter concerning Aleema Khan and her sisters. Condemning the failure to resolve the situation and complaints that have arisen regarding them even after a month, it demanded the full protection of their fundamental, constitutional and legal rights.

Strong condemnation of arrests of political workers across the country, detentions under MPO and political victimization

The meeting condemned in the strongest terms the ongoing crackdown, raids on homes, arrests, detentions, harassment and political victimization against PTI leaders, office-bearers, workers and supporters across the country.

Similarly, according to the declaration, there was a strong demand for the immediate transfer of PTI Chairman Imran Khan to Shifa International Hospital, implementation of the Supreme Court’s orders and restoration of meetings.

The two-day joint meeting of PTI’s Political Committee and Core Committee expressed extremely serious concern over the health of PTI Chairman and former Prime Minister Imran Khan, his immediate transfer to hospital, delays in necessary medical examinations and treatment, and the non-implementation of Supreme Court orders regarding meetings with him.

The meeting strongly demanded that the Supreme Court of Pakistan ensure immediate and effective implementation of its orders regarding meetings with Imran Khan and his fundamental rights. Giving top priority to the protection of Imran Khan’s health and life, he should be shifted without delay to Shifa International Hospital, all necessary medical examinations and treatment should be facilitated under the supervision of expert doctors, and his right to regular meetings with his family, legal team and relevant persons should be restored immediately.

The meeting also demanded the removal of obstacles to meetings of Bushra Bibi with her family and legal team and the full restoration of all her constitutional, legal and fundamental rights.

The meeting made clear that further delay in matters of Imran Khan’s health, life, treatment and meetings is not acceptable under any circumstances. Implementation of judicial orders is not a concession or a political favor but a constitutional and legal obligation.

All prisoners, including Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi, should be treated in accordance with the requirements of the Constitution, law and human dignity.

The meeting expressed serious concern over the continued detention, health, treatment and legal rights of PTI leaders and workers imprisoned in various jails across the country, including Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Dr. Yasmin Rashid, Senator Ijaz Chaudhry, Mian Mahmood ur Rashid, Umar Sarfraz Cheema, and imprisoned women of the party, including at Kot Lakhpat Jail.

The meeting demanded the provision of necessary medical facilities, meetings with family and lawyers, transparent judicial proceedings and all fundamental rights to all these political prisoners.

The meeting reiterated its commitment that PTI will continue its full constitutional and legal struggle to challenge in legal forums the cases established on the basis of political revenge against all its imprisoned leaders, women and workers, and to secure their release and the provision of justice.

At the conclusion of the two-day joint meeting, a unanimous commitment was reiterated that PTI will continue its struggle for the supremacy of the Constitution, protection of democratic institutions, provincial autonomy, respect for the public mandate and the rights of political prisoners in the country.

The meeting urged all party organizations, elected representatives, office-bearers and workers to play their role on political, legal, parliamentary and media fronts with mutual unity, discipline and a coordinated strategy.

The meeting declared unequivocally that any unconstitutional interference in the public mandate of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, retaliatory actions against political workers and violations of democratic rights will not be accepted under any circumstances. PTI will adopt all available avenues of the Constitution, law and peaceful democratic struggle against these actions and will raise its voice strongly on every relevant forum.
