Only Power-Theft Transformers to Be Shut, Not Entire Feeders: New System

Islamabad (Qudrat Daily) — Minister for Energy Owais Leghari has said that an EPMS (Energy Performance Monitoring System) is being installed to shut down specific transformers in power-theft areas. Under this system, the relevant theft-prone transformers will be identified and shut down.

Speaking during a visit to the DG Khan Airport expansion project, Leghari said modern technology is being utilized to curb power theft, and with EPMS, thousands of innocent consumers on entire feeders will not be affected.

He stated that load-shedding will continue on all feeders with line losses of 30 percent or more, and no relief will be given under any circumstances to those involved in power theft or non-payment of bills.

The federal minister said scheduled load-shedding in the country has saved consumers from hefty bills, and power generation is becoming expensive due to gas shortages caused by the Iran-US conflict.

Regarding the airport, he said DG Khan Airport is being upgraded for international flights, and the airport project, costing Rs 5.5 billion, will be completed in January 2028. On the Prime Minister’s directive, work to make the airport international has already begun.

He said work is underway on four development projects announced by the Prime Minister in DG Khan, including the airport expansion, a cancer hospital, sewage, and road-widening projects. The sewage project has been designed keeping in view DG Khan’s needs for the next 50 years, and road expansion and widening will provide citizens with the best commuting facilities.
