CM Sarfraz Bugti’s Educational Revolution: Sohbatpur’s Mahira Mahmood Reaches Oxford, Kohlu’s Humaira Younus Australian University

QUETTA – In line with Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti’s vision, the Balochistan government has opened the doors to higher education at world-class universities for talented youth from the province’s poor and middle-class segments. Mahira Mahmood, belonging to the remote area of Sohbatpur in Balochistan, has gained access to Oxford University in Britain, while Humaira Younus of Kohlu has reached the University of Queensland in Australia, earning international recognition for the capabilities of the province’s daughters.

Chief Minister Balochistan Mir Sarfraz Bugti, describing the success of both students as a reflection of the bright future of the province’s youth and the fruits of the government scholarship program, said that these proud daughters of Balochistan are a symbol of hope and courage for thousands of young people. Their journey from Sohbatpur to Oxford and from Kohlu to a renowned Australian university is an expression of the determination that poverty will not be allowed to become an obstacle in the path of dreams in Balochistan.

The Chief Minister said the government has fulfilled its promise that children of Balochistan’s poor and middle-class families will also study at the world’s universities where usually children of affluent families study. “Our effort is that no child’s future should be determined by their parents’ financial status but by their ability, hard work, and capability. The dream of any talented young person should not remain incomplete merely due to a lack of financial resources.”

Mahira Mahmood, studying at Oxford University, said in her remarks that if she had not received the Balochistan Education Endowment Fund scholarship, her dream of studying at Oxford would never have been fulfilled due to fee expenses. She said today she is living her dream and is grateful for this opportunity to Chief Minister Balochistan Mir Sarfraz Bugti and all those who implemented this step. Mahira Mahmood said being part of Oxford University’s historic Lady Margaret Hall college is a matter of pride for her, as Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto was also associated with this college. She said studying at this historic institution is an extraordinary honor for her.

Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti, addressing Mahira Mahmood and Humaira Younus, said they are the proud daughters of Balochistan and their successes are the hope of a bright future for every young person and every daughter of the province. He said the Balochistan Education Endowment Fund scholarship is not merely financial assistance but a new path for Balochistan’s youth toward development, self-confidence, and having their capabilities recognized at the global level.

Mir Sarfraz Bugti said the Balochistan government wants to build a society through education where every child has equal opportunities to move forward. The success of Mahira Mahmood of Sohbatpur and Humaira Younus of Kohlu is an expression that daughters from the province’s remote areas can also secure a place at the world’s leading universities on the strength of their hard work, ability, and capability. He expressed the commitment that the Balochistan government will continue measures for the education and development of youth so that no talented young person of the province is deprived of higher education due to financial difficulties, and Balochistan’s new generation can make its mark at the global level in the fields of knowledge, research, and professional expertise.
