Police Formally Arrest Former Gilgit-Baltistan CM Khalid Khurshid; ATC Sends Him to Jail on Judicial Remand

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad police have formally shown the arrest of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and former Gilgit-Baltistan chief minister Khalid Khurshid in connection with a case related to the November 26 protest. An anti-terrorism court (ATC) rejected the police request for physical remand and ordered that he be sent to jail on judicial remand.

According to reports, Islamabad police formally arrested Khurshid in a case registered in connection with the November 26 political protest. He was reportedly taken into custody from the Speaker House in Peshawar, where the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly speaker was also present, before being transferred to Islamabad.

Khurshid was subsequently produced before a special anti-terrorism court amid tight security.

During the hearing, police and investigation officials requested physical remand to question the former chief minister and conduct further investigation into the case.

However, after reviewing the investigating team’s arguments, the ATC judge rejected the request for physical remand and ordered Khurshid to be transferred to jail under judicial custody.

The former chief minister had reportedly been wanted by law enforcement agencies for an extended period in connection with anti-terrorism cases related to the November 26 protest and subsequent unrest.

Following his formal arrest and court appearance, Khurshid has been placed in judicial custody while further legal proceedings in the case continue.
