‘Same Film, Same Script, Same Director, Only the Cast Has Changed’: Hafiz Hamdullah Takes Aim at Maryam Nawaz, Uzma Bukhari

ISLAMABAD: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) central leader and former senator Hafiz Hamdullah has strongly criticised Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and provincial Information Minister Uzma Bukhari, alleging that the political role previously assigned to Ayesha Gulalai is now being played by the two PML-N leaders.

In a sarcastic statement posted on social media platform X, Hamdullah said the film, script and director remained the same, while only the actors had been updated.

“The film is the same, the script is the same, and the director is also the same. Only the characters have been updated,” he remarked, sarcastically congratulating the new performers on their alleged roles.

Hamdullah’s response came after Maryam Nawaz criticised JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman over his remarks concerning the political situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and those accused of supporting terrorism.

Maryam Nawaz said she had not expected a senior politician like Fazlur Rehman, who had himself been a victim of terrorism, to support those allegedly patronising terrorists.

She questioned whether he had attended the funeral of even a single person killed in terrorism during the past 13 years.

The Punjab chief minister further alleged that instead of holding those responsible for incompetence, mismanagement and corruption in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa accountable, Fazlur Rehman was making statements in their support.

She accused the people he was defending of providing terrorists with shelter, resources and safe havens, enabling them to launch attacks against Pakistan.

Maryam Nawaz also alleged that the provincial government’s failures had damaged the lives of people in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while valuable public resources had been spent on sit-ins and protests rather than public welfare.

She said 13 precious years had been wasted because of corruption and incompetence, according to her assessment.

Referring to the country’s military leadership, she added that Fazlur Rehman’s remarks about the army chief, under whose leadership Pakistan had achieved what she described as a historic victory in Marka-e-Haq and gained the distinction of protecting the holy sites of Haramain Sharifain, had hurt patriotic Pakistanis.

Hamdullah’s remarks have added another dimension to the political exchange between JUI-F and PML-N, with the two sides trading criticism over terrorism, governance in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and political allegiances.
