Punjab govt directs swift completion of e-bike scheme process

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has directed authorities to expedite the Chief Minister’s E-Bike Scheme process after more than 607,000 students submitted applications.

As per a report, more than 1.3 million students registered on the scheme’s portal, while over 607,000 completed and submitted their applications before the deadline.

However, the Punjab government has taken this initiative to cover interest and insurance costs, allowing eligible students to obtain electric bikes through monthly instalments.

The administration is expected to complete the verification and selection process in October. Successful applicants will be selected through a transparent balloting process, after which the government will distribute electric bikes.

The scheme aims to provide e-bikes to 100,000 young people, with monthly instalments of around Rs3,000. On the chief minister’s directions, successful female applicants will also receive free driving training.

Moreover, Maryam Nawaz said the government would provide young people, particularly female students, with resources to help them move forward. She added that electric bikes would make commuting easier and help students reduce their monthly travel expenses.

She added, “Every son and daughter of Punjab is very special to me.”
