ISLAMABAD:The federal cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, has recommended that an emergency be imposed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa under Articles 232 and 234 of the Constitution, citing the deteriorating law and order situation and rising terrorism in the province.
According to a statement, the cabinet was briefed on the security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the worsening threat posed by terrorist incidents.
The cabinet conducted a detailed review of the situation, expressing concern over the deteriorating security environment and what it described as the provincial government’s deliberate disengagement from the fight against terrorism.
### Advice Sent to President
Following the review, the cabinet recommended that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif advise President Asif Ali Zardari to exercise his constitutional powers and impose an emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in view of the seriousness of the situation.
