Rain Forecast Across Most Punjab Districts Until October 7, PDMA Issues Alert

LAHORE: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued an alert as rain is forecast across most districts of Punjab from today until October 7, directing district administrations to remain on high alert.

According to a PDMA spokesperson, rain is expected in Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Wazirabad, Lahore, Kasur, Sheikhupura, Sialkot and Narowal.

Rain has also been forecast for Mianwali, Khushab, Sargodha, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh and Faisalabad. The PDMA warned of a risk of landslides in Murree, Galiyat and other mountainous areas.

PDMA Director General Saif Anwar Jappa directed commissioners and deputy commissioners across the province to remain alert. He said the alert had been issued to district administrations in accordance with the directives of the Punjab chief minister.

He urged citizens to take precautionary measures during bad weather, avoid unnecessary travel and remain in safe places in case of strong winds or storms. People were also advised to avoid open areas during lightning, thunderstorms and severe weather.

The PDMA advised residents not to stay in dilapidated or mud houses and urged parents to take special care of children. Parents were asked to prevent children from going near accumulated water in low-lying areas, electricity wires and power poles.

The PDMA spokesperson said citizens could contact the authority’s helpline at 1129 in case of any emergency.
