Major Theft at Nawab of Bahawalpur Family’s Residence in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: A major theft has been reported at the residence of the former royal family of Bahawalpur in the upscale F-8/3 sector of Islamabad, where a domestic employee allegedly stole valuable historical artefacts and heritage items worth around Rs20 million with the help of accomplices.

The incident reportedly took place at the residence of Prince Bahawal Abbas Khan Abbasi, son of Nawab Salahuddin Abbasi.

According to reports, the stolen items include a historic silver throne-like chair, silver stairs, silver bowls, gold plates, rare statues, gold items bearing the royal insignia of the State of Bahawalpur, a historic silver frame, antique guns and swords.

Margalla Police Station In-charge Muhammad Imran told Arab News that the main domestic employee allegedly involved in the theft had been arrested and interrogated.

However, police have not yet disclosed whether all of the stolen valuables and historical artefacts have been recovered.

The incident comes amid growing concerns over an increase in theft and robbery incidents in the federal capital in recent days.

According to available information, eight separate incidents reported during the current week resulted in the theft of cash, valuables and heritage items worth more than Rs34 million.

In response to the rising crime rate, law enforcement agencies have intensified search operations, vehicle checks and surveillance in various parts of Islamabad.

Authorities have also been working on measures to strengthen security in the capital, including the installation of electronic vehicle tags, commonly known as M-Tags, as part of efforts to improve monitoring and security.
