Government, Opposition to Hold Key Talks Today Amid Political Tensions

Islamabad: The government and opposition are set to hold important talks on the prevailing political situation today at 12 noon at the office of National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq.

Delegations from both the government and opposition will participate in the meeting.

The government delegation will include Federal Ministers Mohsin Naqvi and Amir Muqam, along with Prime Minister’s Adviser Rana Sanaullah. The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) will be represented by Sherry Rehman, Syed Naveed Qamar and Ejaz Jakhrani.

The opposition delegation will comprise Barrister Gohar, Raja Nasir Abbas, Asad Qaiser, Salman Akram Raja, Aamir Dogar and Haleem Adil Sheikh. According to Barrister Gohar, the names of the opposition delegation have been approved by the PTI’s political and core committees.

The talks will focus on the prevailing political situation, the dialogue process and the future political course of action.

According to sources, the PTI delegation is also expected to raise matters concerning the health of the party’s founding chairman, medical facilities and meetings with him.

Sources said the PTI delegation is likely to demand the transfer of the party’s founding chairman to Shifa International Hospital, the scheduling of hearings in cases against him, and the release of his sisters. The issue of arrests of other MNAs and MPAs will also reportedly be discussed.

According to sources, the government delegation is expected to ask the PTI to call off its planned October 4 long march.

Barrister Gohar has also confirmed the meeting between the government and opposition delegations.
