Pakistan Army Has Nothing to Do With Politics, Will Not Answer Political Questions: DG ISPR

Rawalpindi: Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry has stated that the Pakistan Army has nothing to do with politics and will not respond to any questions regarding political matters.

During a media briefing, when asked about meetings between military officials and Imran Khan in Adiala Jail and the PTI long march, Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry responded in clear and unequivocal terms: “Let me say very clearly that the Army has nothing to do with politics. We will not answer any question about politics. Politics is for political parties; governments are also formed by politicians. This is for the government and political parties.”

Addressing a press conference in Rawalpindi, DG ISPR Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said that on the night of September 29, the Indian Army Corps claimed through a social media post that it had killed a dangerous Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist named Muhammad Asif, alias Hashim Musa, during an operation in Indian-occupied Kashmir. Later, Indian news agencies and the army formally issued a service number and claimed that the killed individual was a former Havildar of Pakistan’s Special Services Group (SSG) who had carried out attacks in several areas of the occupied valley.

DG ISPR rejected all these Indian claims as a pack of lies and presented Havildar Muhammad Asif alive before journalists. Speaking to the media on the occasion, Havildar Muhammad Asif, a resident of Pindi Gheb in Attock district, said: “I am completely alive. I am working in a private security company in Rawalpindi and I am standing before you.”

He said that suddenly yesterday, friends and relatives started calling him to say that Indian media was reporting news of his martyrdom, which left him extremely surprised. “I was sitting at home astonished by these claims. I retired from the SSG in 2023. I have fought for my country before and I am ready to fight again. I strongly condemn India’s baseless and shameful allegation. India has falsely accused my country. I am alive and well before all of you.”
