Governor’s Rule in KP Would Trigger a Strong Reaction, Says Junaid Akbar

PESHAWAR: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa President and senior party leader Junaid Akbar Khan has warned the federal government of a strong reaction if governor’s rule or an emergency is imposed in the province.

Speaking about the possibility of governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Junaid Akbar said no one should remain under the misconception that the PTI would be intimidated, warning that any move against the provincial government would trigger a reaction that could “sweep many people away.”

“Let them impose governor’s rule, then we will see and the governor will see,” the PTI leader said.

Junaid Akbar alleged that while cases had been registered against PTI founder Imran Khan and members of his family had been imprisoned, the party was still expected not to proceed with its long march.

Criticising the current judicial situation and recent decisions, he said the nation and PTI would not accept what he described as decisions that were being imposed on them.

He said Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi was standing firm and that protecting him was the collective responsibility of the party.

Junaid Akbar further warned that if an emergency or governor’s rule was imposed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, PTI lawmakers would resign collectively from all assemblies.

Indicating that the party was considering a tougher course of action, he said PTI now wanted a “once and for all” decision.

“They can hang us or kill us; whatever has to happen, let it happen,” he said, adding that the party had repeatedly attempted reconciliation but its efforts had allegedly been interpreted as weakness.

Junaid Akbar said PTI workers were deeply dissatisfied over the party’s inability to secure Imran Khan’s release during the past two years.

“We are now prepared mentally to face all kinds of consequences. If the government goes, let it go,” he said.
