Balochistan CM, WFP Country Director Discuss Expanding Cooperation on Food Security
QUETTA: Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti met with World Food Programme (WFP) Pakistan Country Director Anita Harsch to discuss measures to combat malnutrition, improve food security and nutrition, and expand ongoing WFP projects in the province.
During the meeting, the two sides reviewed WFP-supported initiatives currently underway in Balochistan, the province’s nutritional situation and future programmes. They also discussed strengthening joint efforts to address malnutrition and ensure access to quality nutrition for children and women.
Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti said malnutrition was a serious challenge in Balochistan and required coordinated efforts involving the provincial government, international organizations and other relevant partners.
He said the Balochistan government was taking effective measures to reduce malnutrition and improve food security, while attaching great importance to cooperation with international organizations in this regard.
The chief minister emphasized that providing adequate and quality nutrition to children and women was essential for building a healthy and strong society. He said malnutrition was directly linked to human health, child development and overall human development, making long-term and sustainable measures essential to addressing the issue.
Bugti said joint initiatives between the Balochistan government and the World Food Programme would contribute to reducing malnutrition and promoting food security across the province.
He assured the WFP of the provincial government’s full possible support for its ongoing projects and said the government was ready to further expand the scope of mutual cooperation.
The meeting also included detailed discussions on WFP’s ongoing activities in Balochistan and its future programmes aimed at improving food security, nutrition and human development, particularly for women and children.
