Kamran Khan Claims Decision Taken to Impose Governor’s Rule in KP

ISLAMABAD: Senior anchorperson and analyst Kamran Khan has claimed that a final decision has been taken to impose Governor’s Rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa under Article 234 of the Constitution, while suggesting that the PTI-led provincial government could still continue if certain conditions are met.
In a post on social media platform X, Kamran Khan claimed that Chief Minister Sohail Afridi and the PTI leadership had been given what he described as a final opportunity to ensure the continuation of the provincial government.
According to his claim, the first condition is that Chief Minister Sohail Afridi and the PTI leadership withdraw, without conditions, the call for the October 4 long march.
The second condition, he said, involves the chief minister withdrawing from the proposed legislation concerning changes to the provincial police system, which has become a point of political controversy.
As a third condition, Kamran Khan claimed that the KP government would have to align its law-and-order priorities with the federal government and state institutions.

He said that acceptance of these changes could provide a basis for a new phase of peaceful engagement between PTI and the state.
The claims come amid heightened political tensions between the federal government and the PTI-led KP government over the party’s planned long march. PTI had originally scheduled the march for September 27 but later postponed it to October 4.
The possibility of Governor’s Rule has also been publicly discussed by KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi. On September 28, Kundi said that Governor’s Rule could be imposed only under extraordinary circumstances involving serious deterioration of law and order, and that the President could take such a step on the advice of the Prime Minister if conditions worsened.
Federal Minister Ameer Muqam also said on September 28 that, in his view, the legal conditions for imposing Governor’s Rule in the province had been met, while Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has rejected pressure to abandon his political position.
Kamran Khan’s reported claims regarding a final decision and the conditions for retaining the PTI government have not been independently confirmed in the available reports.
