Pashtuns Are Part of Punjab’s Social Fabric, Force Cannot Resolve Conflict: Aneeq Naji

ISLAMABAD: Analyst Aneeq Naji has warned that policies aimed at isolating the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and increasing provincial divisions could have serious consequences for the country, arguing that political and internal tensions cannot be resolved through force.
In a message on social media platform X, Naji compared the current tensions between KP and Punjab with the circumstances surrounding the separation of East Pakistan. He said the hostility in East Pakistan was geographically separated from the rest of the country by around 1,000 miles, whereas Pashtuns live across Pakistan, including Punjab and Karachi, and are part of the country’s institutions and cities.
He said Pakistanis share the same religion and have deep family and social ties across provincial boundaries. “No stick has yet been invented in the world that can resolve such internal and national tensions and conflict,” he said.
Aniq Naji (@aniqnaji) September 29, 2026
Commenting on the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s political narrative, Naji alleged that attempts were being made to portray the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf as a terrorist organisation and link it with the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). He compared such allegations with what he described as historical attempts to label political opponents as traitors.
He cited examples from Pakistan’s political history, including Fatima Jinnah and former prime minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, and criticised the political record of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif.
Najib also endorsed calls for electoral rights and “real freedom,” arguing that when a political party secures a clear electoral mandate but is unable to form a government, it raises questions about the implementation of voters’ constitutional rights.
He further argued that restricting political participation could contribute to political alienation and push some people towards undesirable paths.

Commenting on the political situation, Najib questioned the imprisonment of a person he described as having won the election while claiming that political figures who lost elections had subsequently assumed key offices.
He said the country was witnessing a situation in which electoral outcomes and the distribution of political power were being questioned, urging the authorities to address political disputes through constitutional and democratic processes.
