Abduction and Torture of Young Trader Muzamil Khan Barrech in Quetta; Involved Elements Should Be Arrested Immediately and Given Severe Punishment: Pashtunkhwa National Awami Party

Quetta (Daily Qudrat) — The Pashtunkhwa National Awami Party has strongly condemned the incident of abduction, torture, threats, extortion, filming, and other mistreatment of young trader Muzamil Khan Barrech within the jurisdiction of Satellite Town police station in Quetta, saying that harassing and torturing innocent citizens in this manner is highly condemnable and concerning.

In a statement issued from the party’s provincial secretariat, it was said that according to the police report, Muzamil Khan Barrech was forcibly taken away, subjected to torture, money was demanded, and attempts were made to pressure him through mobile phone and video as well. The incident, which occurred within the jurisdiction of Satellite Town police station, raises several serious questions regarding the rule of law and the protection of citizens.

The statement said that according to the affected citizen, the past of some members of the accused’s family has also been linked to serious incidents. The 2014 incident of the martyrdom of numerous innocent people at Masjid Farooqia of the Tablighi Centre is also extremely regrettable in this regard, while complaints and allegations against some individuals of the said family regarding drug trafficking and other crimes in the area have also continued to surface. The party said that all these incidents and allegations should be fully and transparently investigated so that the facts can come before the public.

The Pashtunkhwa National Awami Party made clear that no individual or family can be allowed to take the law into their own hands, abduct citizens, subject them to torture, threaten them, or forcibly extort money from them. It is the responsibility of state institutions to ensure the protection of citizens’ lives, property, and honour, and to take action against lawbreakers without discrimination.

The party demanded that a complete, impartial, and transparent investigation into the Muzamil Khan Barrech incident be conducted, all involved individuals be arrested and given due punishment in accordance with the law, protection be provided to the affected citizen and his family, and effective action be taken against drug trafficking, abduction, extortion, and other crimes across the entire area, including the jurisdiction of Satellite Town police station.
