Big Relief for Driving Licence Applicants: Free Medical Certificate in Lahore

Lahore (Qudrat Daily) — A major facility has been provided for citizens applying for driving licences in Lahore, as free medical certificates for driving licences can now be obtained from 13 government hospitals across the city. Special counters have been established at various hospitals for this purpose.

According to Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore Syed Abdul Rahim Shirazi, an arrangement has been made to issue free medical fitness certificates for the convenience of citizens. The purpose of this initiative is to save citizens from the additional expenses and difficulties faced in obtaining a medical certificate during the licence acquisition process.

Free medical counters have been set up at DHQ Hospital Mian Mir, DHQ Mozang, General Hospital Ghaziabad, Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Sabzazar, Government Hospital Samanabad, Government General Hospital Qila Gujjar Singh, and Government General Hospital Shahdara.

In addition, Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Bilal Gunj, Government Hospital Sodiwal, Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Kahna, Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Raiwind, and Government Eye and General Hospital Swami Nagar Shalimar are also included in this facility. Available reports mention 13 government centres.

According to traffic authorities, a medical fitness certificate is mandatory for individuals applying for a commercial driving licence and for citizens over 50 years of age. Such individuals can obtain the certificate from the free counters established at the designated government hospitals.

Meanwhile, preparations are also underway to introduce a digital system to curb fake medical fitness certificates. In this regard, a proposal has been made to link the Driving Licence Management System (DLIMS) with the Health Department’s online system.

Under the proposed system, medical fitness certificates issued by hospitals will be uploaded directly to the Health Department’s portal, which will make online verification of certificates easier for the relevant authorities. Data sharing between the traffic police and the Health Department is also planned to make the verification process more effective.

According to the Chief Traffic Officer, online medical verification can help improve transparency and accountability, while also reducing the chances of fake certificates being used. Through this initiative, efforts are being made to make the driving licence process easier and more convenient for citizens.
