KP Government Should Not Push Situation to Point Where Governor’s Rule Becomes Necessary: Faisal Karim Kundi

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has urged the provincial government not to push the situation to a point where the imposition of governor’s rule or an emergency becomes necessary.

Speaking to the media during a visit to a hospital in Peshawar, Kundi said the province was facing serious governance and corruption issues, while funerals were taking place due to terrorism.

He said the prevailing security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa could not afford a long march, adding that terrorism was claiming lives across the province and that mobilising towards Islamabad under such circumstances was inappropriate.

Kundi urged the provincial government to take all stakeholders into confidence and focus on improving the law and order situation instead of pursuing political activities.

“All political parties should formulate a joint strategy for peace in the province and play their role on the front line against terrorism,” he said.

The governor said peace should be restored in the province first, while political and other issues could be discussed later. He called on the provincial government to postpone the planned long march and focus on the deteriorating law and order situation.

Kundi said governor’s rule was imposed as a measure of necessity when circumstances in a province deteriorated.

“The provincial government should not take matters to the point where governor’s rule becomes necessary,” he said.

He added that if the situation in the province deteriorated, the President could impose governor’s rule on the advice of the Prime Minister, urging the provincial government not to create circumstances that could compel the federal government and the President to impose an emergency.

Earlier, Governor Kundi visited Khyber Teaching Hospital, where he expressed solidarity with house officers and trainee medical officers who were protesting over their concerns.

Following Kundi’s request, young doctors announced an end to their ongoing protest in Dera Ismail Khan, citing the prevailing security situation.

The doctors appreciated Kundi’s role in Dera Ismail Khan and thanked him for his efforts. They said the decision to end the protest was taken in response to the governor’s request and in view of the circumstances in the district.
