Talal Chaudhry Explains Why He Remembers Prices of Lentils, Vegetables and Sugar

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) senior leader and Minister of State for Interior Senator Talal Chaudhry has given an interesting reason for remembering the prices of everyday commodities, saying Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif closely monitors even minor changes in prices.
Speaking to anchorperson Shehzad Iqbal, Chaudhry said, “I remember the prices of lentils and vegetables by heart because Shehbaz Sharif is my prime minister. If the price of sugar increases by just Rs2, he sends a message at 4am asking why the price has gone up.”

Chaudhry also strongly criticised the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) planned long march, saying that the state could not be held hostage by bringing 40,000 or 50,000 people onto the streets.
“There will be no nonsense in the country anymore. It will not be possible for anyone to bring 40,000 or 50,000 people and hold the state hostage,” he said.
When anchorperson Shehzad Iqbal asked whether the same principle would apply to the PML-N when it was in opposition, including protests such as the “Mehangai Mitao March” or the Gujranwala rally, Chaudhry replied that such activities were the party’s “democratic and political right.”

The minister also disclosed statistics regarding the age profile of the Islamabad Police, claiming that 70 percent of the force is over 55 years of age.
“How can personnel of such an age chase rioters or climb high walls?” he questioned, adding that 10,000 new personnel would be recruited to the Islamabad Police through a formal and transparent recruitment process to strengthen security in the federal capital.
In another part of his remarks, Chaudhry complained about the voting behaviour of Islamabad residents, saying that citizens should recognise public services provided to them.

He noted that residents travelled on the Metro Bus for only Rs20 and claimed that the facility had been provided by the PML-N government, questioning why the party did not receive corresponding electoral support from the city’s residents.
