250 PTI Workers Booked Over Alleged Vandalism at Attock Bridge

ATTOCK:Police in Attock have registered a case against 250 Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers over allegations of removing barriers and damaging government property at Attock Bridge, amid security measures introduced ahead of the party’s planned march towards Islamabad.

According to police officials, several PTI workers have also been detained in connection with the incident. Those detained have been accused of damaging government property while removing barriers installed on the bridge.

The case was registered after protesters allegedly dismantled barriers and other obstructions placed on Attock Bridge. Reports from the scene said protesters had removed metal barriers and spikes installed across the route.

The government had blocked Attock Bridge with containers and other barriers as part of security arrangements ahead of PTI’s planned September 27 long march towards Islamabad. The bridge is a key route connecting Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with Punjab and was identified as an important point for restricting the movement of protesters.

Police had significantly increased security deployments in Attock and other parts of the Rawalpindi Division ahead of the planned march. *Dawn* reported that more than 43,200 police personnel were to be deployed across the division, including 30,700 in Attock, while around 120 blocking points were identified across the division.

The action against PTI workers comes amid heightened political tensions surrounding the party’s planned mobilisation. The PTI subsequently postponed its September 27 march to October 4, with the party’s political committee announcing the revised date on September 25.

Police officials said further action would be taken against those identified as being involved in the alleged vandalism, while raids were reportedly being conducted to arrest other nominated suspects.

The allegations against the PTI workers have not been established in court, and the case will proceed through the legal process.

The developments at Attock Bridge have added to concerns over disruption of transport links between Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as authorities continue security preparations surrounding the PTI’s announced October 4 mobilisation.
