US Launches Online Portal to Report Suspected Visa Fraud

NEW YORK: The U.S. Department of State has launched a new online portal allowing members of the public to report suspected visa fraud and misuse of U.S. visas. The department says reports submitted through the tool will be reviewed for investigation and appropriate action.

According to the State Department, the new reporting system is intended to help identify and prevent fraudulent or improper use of U.S. visas. The department is encouraging people with information about potential visa fraud or misuse to submit the details through the online form.

The department said allegations of visa fraud are taken seriously and that information provided by the public can support investigations and enforcement of U.S. immigration laws. The reporting form can also be submitted anonymously, although providing contact information may allow officials to seek additional details if necessary.

The State Department said visa fraud can involve the use of fraudulent documents or travel plans, sham marriages arranged through intermediaries, fictitious companies, fraudulent job offers and arrangements involving travel to the United States for the purpose of giving birth, among other methods.

According to the department, visa fraud can have consequences beyond deceiving the U.S. government, potentially affecting American society and the economy, workers’ interests, national security and public safety.

The department said U.S. laws would be fully enforced against violations. Possible measures include visa cancellation and referring suspected fraud cases to relevant authorities for further investigation and legal action.

The State Department has urged anyone with information about suspected visa fraud or misuse to use the newly launched online reporting portal to provide details for investigation.
