‘There Is No Such Thing’: Punjab IG Rejects Allegations of Raids, Vandalism at Homes

LAHORE: Punjab Inspector General of Police Rao Abdul Karim has rejected allegations of raids and vandalism at citizens’ homes, saying that the Punjab Police has a system of internal accountability and that complaints of misconduct will be investigated.

Speaking to the media, the Punjab IG said, “There is no such thing.” He maintained that the Punjab Police has a transparent and strict accountability mechanism.

“If any citizen believes that they have been subjected to injustice or mistreatment, they should submit a formal complaint. We will conduct an inquiry and take action in accordance with the law, without discrimination,” Rao Abdul Karim said.

Earlier, the Punjab IG appeared before the Lahore High Court on the directives of Chief Justice Justice Aalia Neelum. During the hearing, the court expressed serious concern over the extremely small and difficult-to-read font used in FIRs and police reports and ordered the use of a larger, uniform font across the province.

According to details, the IG appeared before the court after being summoned by the chief justice. Earlier, SP Sadar Muhammad Abdullah had faced difficulty reading an FIR and police report submitted before the court because of the small font.

Chief Justice Aalia Neelum remarked that when the content of three pages was compressed into a single page, the font would naturally become too small. She observed that efforts to save paper had resulted in documents becoming difficult to read even with glasses.

The court directed the Punjab IG to issue immediate instructions to all police stations and departments to increase the font size used in FIRs and implement a uniform format across Punjab so that the documents could be easily read in courts.
