“If Captain Safdar’s Hotel Room Was Broken Into While Maryam Nawaz Was Present, It Was Called Fascism — Today It’s Happening in Many Punjab Homes”: Shahzad Iqbal

Lahore: Journalist Shahzad Iqbal has said that when Captain Safdar’s hotel room was broken into for his arrest and Maryam Nawaz was also present there, there was a huge outcry calling it fascism. Today, that same fascism is happening in many homes across Punjab — and if their turn comes, will they not seek revenge?

In his vlog, Shahzad Iqbal said that a hotel room was broken into to arrest Captain Safdar, and Maryam Nawaz was also present in that room, which sparked a massive outcry. He said that what is happening in the country is being faced by PTI — raids on homes, sisters being arrested at night, vandalism inside homes in front of families. He asserted that law enforcement agencies do not do this anywhere, and it is not for maintaining law and order but is fascism.

Referring to the Awari Towers incident, he said a hotel room was broken into to arrest Captain Safdar, and Maryam Nawaz was present in that room. That single incident caused such an uproar. But today, this is happening in many homes across Punjab. He questioned whether these people will not keep burning in the fire of revenge, and whether when their turn comes, they will not do the same.

He further asked why other spectators are silent at this time. The Pakistan Peoples Party says it believes in democracy and is an opposition party in Punjab — why is it not raising its voice? Jamaat-e-Islami is also protesting, but they know that their protest will not be dealt with in the same manner as PTI is being treated, and talks are also being held with them, so they are at peace. JUI-F is also silent.

The question, he said, is that tomorrow, when it happens to you — Mohsin Naqvi says provinces will be formed, and when there is talk of new provinces, the PPP will resist — will the same attitude be adopted toward the PPP as well? Will other parties still remain silent then? Will political parties and the judiciary stand with Bilawal Bhutto at that time?
