Social Activists Condemn Attack on Senior Journalist Naseer Ahmed in Quetta
QUETTA:Social activists Hussain Durrani and Muhammad Anwar Shahwani have strongly condemned the reported attack on senior journalist Naseer Ahmed and called for the immediate arrest of those allegedly involved.
In a joint statement, the activists described the attack as a deeply regrettable and condemnable incident, saying it had caused concern among members of the journalist community.
They said journalists play an important role in society by highlighting public issues and bringing facts to light. They maintained that it was the responsibility of the state and relevant institutions to ensure the safety and security of journalists while they perform their professional duties.
Hussain Durrani and Muhammad Anwar Shahwani said threats, intimidation and violence against journalists could not be accepted under any circumstances.
They demanded that all individuals involved in the incident be arrested immediately and dealt with according to the law.
The two activists also expressed solidarity with senior journalist Naseer Ahmed and conveyed their best wishes for his recovery and well-being.
The reported assault has drawn condemnation from several journalist organisations and groups in Balochistan. Quetta police officials have also assured the journalist that the incident would be investigated impartially and that all legal requirements would be fulfilled. ([Daily Qudrat][2])
