Goods Transporters Announce 7% Increase in Freight Charges

ISLAMABAD:The All Pakistan Goods Transporters Alliance has announced a 7 per cent increase in freight charges following a sharp rise in fuel prices.

Alliance President Malik Shahzad Awan said the decision had been taken in response to the increase in diesel and petrol prices.

He said the price of diesel had increased by Rs26.88 per litre over the past seven days, while petrol had become Rs20 per litre more expensive during the same period.

Malik Shahzad said the increase in freight charges was necessary due to the rising cost of fuel and the resulting increase in transportation expenses.

The increase in goods transport fares is expected to put further pressure on the prices of essential commodities, as higher transportation costs are generally passed on to consumers.

Meanwhile, the government increased the price of diesel by Rs3.47 per litre a day earlier, taking its new price to Rs424.92 per litre.

The latest increase in freight charges comes amid continued volatility in fuel prices and growing concerns over the impact of higher transportation costs on the prices of everyday goods.
