Quetta District Jirga Summoned on September 17; Unified Strategy to Be Formulated on Insecurity, Kidnapping, Robbery, and Plunder of Resources: Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party
Quetta – A meeting of the district committee of the Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) was held at the party’s central secretariat under the chairmanship of Provincial Senior Vice President and Quetta District Secretary Syed Sharaf Agha, in which detailed consideration was given to the convening of the Quetta district jirga on September 17 and the future course of action.
The meeting was attended by party Central General Secretary Abdul Rahim Ziaratwal, Central Secretary Nawab Muhammad Ayaz Khan Jogezai, Provincial President Abdul Qahar Khan Wadan, Provincial General Secretary Kabir Afghan, Provincial Office Secretary Malik Umar Kakar, Provincial Parliamentary Secretary Hazrat Umar Advocate, Provincial Deputy Secretaries Nemat Kakar and Bashir Kakar Advocate, and Central Committee members Sardar Bahadur Khan Musakhail and William Jan Barkat.
The meeting was informed that in light of the decisions of the jirga held in Bannu from March 11 to 14, 2022, and the decisions of the people of Southern Pashtunkhwa and the Pashtun National Jirga held in Quetta on August 30, 31, and September 1, 2026, district-level jirgas will be held in all districts of Southern Pashtunkhwa.
Central Secretary Nawab Ayaz Khan Jogezai said that the Quetta district jirga will be held on September 17, and preparations for it have begun. Invitations will be sent to all jirga members of the district.
Central General Secretary Abdul Rahim Ziaratwal said that the purpose of holding jirgas in all districts of Southern Pashtunkhwa is to determine a unified future course of action through consultation on the problems faced by the people, the current situation, and national and collective affairs.
Provincial President Abdul Qahar Khan Wadan said that political and social leaders, tribal elders, intellectuals, lawyers, youth, women, laborers, farmers, traders, journalists, and representatives from various walks of life will participate in the jirgas.
The meeting noted that the jirgas will give detailed consideration to ongoing insecurity in Southern Pashtunkhwa and particularly in the relevant districts, kidnapping for ransom, robbery, killings, land grabbing, road closures, law and order, the alleged unconstitutional and illegal transfer or allotment of lands, mountains, and forests, the closure of trade, and the economic and social situation.
Party leaders said the jirgas will formulate a unified future course of action to resolve these issues in light of public opinion and suggestions, so that effective steps can be taken to rid the people of their difficulties.
Addressing the meeting, leaders paid tribute to the party’s office-bearers and workers for the successful holding of the people of Southern Pashtunkhwa and the Pashtun National Jirga in Quetta, who worked day and night in various committees to fulfill their responsibilities.
Party leaders said that millions of people in Quetta are deprived of basic facilities. On one hand, the situation regarding clean drinking water, education, health, employment, and peace is worrying, while on the other hand, questions are also being raised about state authority and civil administration.
They alleged that the business community is facing difficulties due to alleged illegal raids by various agencies on commercial centers, markets, and shops and the confiscation of traders’ goods.
Leaders said that the unconstitutional situation in the country has further increased political instability. According to them, until all institutions fully implement the country’s agreed-upon Constitution, it will be difficult to overcome the country’s crises.
