Balochistan’s Rulers Have Decided to Kill People With Hunger and Poverty by Creating an Artificial Wheat Shortage: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam

Quetta – Leaders of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) Quetta district have strongly criticized the government’s negligence and silence over the wheat shortage and rising flour prices, saying it appears the rulers of Balochistan have decided to kill the people with hunger and poverty after bullets and gunpowder.

In a joint statement, JUI Quetta district Amir Sheikh-ul-Hadith Maulana Abdul Rahman Rafiq, Secretary General Haji Ainullah Shams, Senior Deputy Amir Maulana Khurshid Ahmed, Finance Secretary Haji Saleh Muhammad, Mufti Raza Khan, Haji Zafarullah Kakar, Mir Sarfaraz Shahwani, Mir Hashmat Lehri, Seth Ajmal Bazi, Salar Maulvi Ali Jan, Maulana Syed Saadullah Agha, and Maulvi Naqeebullah Malakhel said that the government’s inattention and silence on the issue of wheat shortage and rising flour prices is regrettable. They said an artificial wheat shortage has been created, making people dependent on others for two meals a day.

They said the ministers of the incompetent and corrupt provincial government have become a gang of Ali Baba and the forty thieves, squeezing the blood and sweat of the people. Daily wage workers, low-income individuals, and salaried families are now worried not about various types of food but about getting two dry pieces of bread a day.

The leaders said it is the government’s responsibility to ensure the availability of food items at reasonable and stable prices, but the government’s inattention and silence over the wheat shortage and rising flour prices is regrettable. Instead of solving public problems, administrative negligence and mismanagement have made the situation more serious.

They said that if artificial inflation, hoarding, or profiteering is behind the wheat and flour shortage, the government should take indiscriminate action and bring those responsible to justice. The government should immediately ensure the availability of wheat, control flour prices, and take effective and practical measures to provide relief to the poor.
