Faisalabad Man Gets Rs 50,000 Electricity Bill, Ends Up with Rs 70,000 in Traffic Fines While Trying to Sell Bike
LAHORE – A citizen of Faisalabad was left stunned after receiving a massive Rs 50,000 electricity bill. However, his ordeal took an even worse turn when he decided to sell his motorcycle to pay the bill – only to discover he had accumulated Rs 70,000 in traffic challans.
According to a media report, the distressed citizen, who works as a motorcycle mechanic earning a daily wage of just Rs 1,000, explained his situation.
“An electricity bill of Rs 70,000 arrived at our home. If anyone visits our house, they will see there’s nothing – just three fans running, which every household has,” he said.
“I decided to sell my bike to pay the bill,” he added. However, when he reached the seller, he was shocked to learn that his motorcycle had 35 traffic challans amounting to Rs 70,000 – all for helmet violations.
“I haven’t received a single message about these 35 challans. If I had received messages, I would have paid them,” the man lamented.
He appealed to the government, urging authorities to first issue warnings to poor citizens before imposing heavy fines. The man also noted that his house is located near a bypass road, which he believes is why he received most of the challans.
“I never used to wear a helmet before, but now I wear one even when I go to buy vegetables,” he said, hoping to avoid further penalties.
