Sohail Afridi Offers PPP to Resign from Constitutional Posts, Join Protest Movement

KARACHI – Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has issued a direct challenge to the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), offering them to resign from their constitutional offices and join the ongoing protest movement for the supremacy of the Constitution and the rule of law .

Addressing a convention at the Sindh High Court Bar Association on the theme of “Rule of Law and Judicial Independence,” Afridi said that while PTI is already engaged in a protest movement, the PPP should also step down from positions including the presidency, the Senate chairmanship, and governorships to pave the way for “real democracy” .

‘Resign to Allow Real Democracy’

“The PTI is already in a protest movement. The PPP should also resign from the offices of President, Senate Chairman, and Governors and allow real democracy to come,” Afridi said during his address .

He challenged political leaders who claim to champion Sindh’s rights to demonstrate their commitment through action rather than words .

Criticism of Sindh Government

Afridi, who has been leading a five-day public mobilisation campaign in Sindh for PTI’s planned nationwide protest on September 27, accused the provincial government of creating obstacles for his convoy . He alleged that while PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari welcomed him publicly, roads were blocked with containers, pits were dug, and PTI workers including women were mistreated .

Apologising to the people of Sindh over the condition of roads, Afridi questioned whether the provincial government was actually responsive to public concerns . He claimed his convoy was forced to travel on dangerous roads at night after highways leading to Karachi were blocked .

Support for Lawyers’ Movement

Speaking at the Sindh High Court Bar Association, Afridi called upon the legal fraternity to lead the struggle for judicial independence and constitutional supremacy . He said the judiciary could never achieve independence unless lawyers themselves stood up for it .

The KP Chief Minister expressed gratitude to Sindh’s lawyers for their historic role in constitutional movements and said PTI would stand with them “even if sacrifices were required” .

Dynastic Politics Under Fire

Afridi, who described himself as an “ordinary party worker” chosen by Imran Khan for the Chief Minister’s position, criticised dynastic politics at the federal and provincial levels . He asserted that true leadership emerges from people’s votes, not from “backdoors under certain arrangements” .

PTI’s Growing Support in Sindh

The KP CM claimed that PTI’s support in Sindh had strengthened significantly, posing a challenge to the traditional political dominance of the PPP in the province . He said the enthusiasm of people during the caravan’s journey through various Sindh cities proved that the political landscape of the province had changed .

Call for September 27 Mobilisation

Afridi urged the masses to join the September 27 nationwide protests for the release of Imran Khan, the withdrawal of false cases against political prisoners, and the restoration of a genuine judiciary . He declared September 27 would be a “day of reckoning” for Pakistan .

KP Information Minister Defends CM

Meanwhile, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Minister Shafi Jan praised Afridi’s visit to Sindh, saying the “monopoly of those who consider Sindh their political fiefdom is now coming to an end.” He said Imran Khan had given political consciousness to the people, and the ruling establishment was afraid of it .
