BDA Employees Left Without Salaries for Two Months, Families Face Severe Hardship
Staff association says workers forced to take loans to survive; urges CM, Chief Secretary for immediate intervention
QUETTA – Employees of the Balochistan Development Authority (BDA) have been deprived of their salaries for the past two months, plunging dozens of families into extreme financial distress, with many households reportedly facing starvation, according to the BDA Staff Association.
Addressing a press conference in Quetta, BDA Staff Association President Maqsood-ur-Rehman Bazai and General Secretary Shams Khalji said that despite performing their duties with full honesty and dedication, employees have not received their wages for two consecutive months.
Severe Domestic Crisis
The leaders painted a grim picture of the situation, stating that household rations have run out, children’s school fees cannot be paid, and rent, electricity, and gas bills continue to accumulate.
“Many homes are facing hunger, and employees are being forced to take loans just to keep their families fed and run their households,” they said.
The association leaders emphasized that salaries are “not a favor or charity but the legitimate wages of hard work.” They said the plight of a poor employee’s family, which relies entirely on the monthly salary, becomes unimaginably difficult when the salary is withheld for two months.
Demand for Immediate Action
Bazai and Khalji called upon the Chief Minister of Balochistan and the Chief Secretary to take urgent notice of the employees’ condition and issue orders for the immediate release of two months’ outstanding salaries.
They urged that the summary for salary disbursement should not be further delayed, saying employees are not demanding any extra privileges or facilities but merely their rightful wages.
Warning of Further Hardship
The Staff Association leaders warned that if the government does not pay immediate attention, the difficulties faced by employees and their families will become even more severe.
They reiterated their appeal to the Chief Minister and Chief Secretary to take notice of the “dying hearths” in BDA employees’ homes and ensure immediate payment of the two months’ pending salaries.
