Pakistan Rejects Indian Claims Regarding Occupied Jammu and Kashmir

ISLAMABAD:Pakistan has rejected what it described as baseless Indian claims regarding occupied Jammu and Kashmir, reiterating that India’s unilateral actions cannot alter the disputed status of the region.

Responding to questions about a recent Indian statement, the Foreign Office spokesperson said Pakistan categorically rejected the baseless claims concerning occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

The spokesperson said the Kashmir dispute was among the oldest unresolved disputes on the agenda of the United Nations Security Council. India’s unilateral measures, he added, could not change the internationally disputed status of Jammu and Kashmir.

According to the Foreign Office, under relevant UN resolutions, the future of Jammu and Kashmir is to be determined through a plebiscite reflecting the will of the Kashmiri people. The plebiscite should be conducted under UN supervision and in accordance with the aspirations of the people of Kashmir.

The spokesperson further noted that official United Nations maps also depict occupied Jammu and Kashmir as a disputed territory. He said so-called Indian official maps and unilateral claims of sovereignty over the region had no legal validity.

Pakistan called on India to immediately end human rights violations in occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

The Foreign Office also urged the international community to press India to fulfill its commitment to the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination and ensure that their right to self-determination is respected in accordance with the relevant UN Security Council resolutions.
