Government Decides to Export Imported Sugar; Tenders Issued for Over 100,000 Metric Tons
ISLAMABAD: The federal government has decided to export sugar that was imported last year, and practical steps have already been initiated to facilitate the overseas sale, official sources confirmed on Sunday.
According to sources, the Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) has issued a tender for the export of the imported sugar. In this regard, e-bids have been invited for a total of 107,739 metric tons of sugar.
Under the tender floated by the TCP, companies and stakeholders interested in sugar exports have been asked to submit their bids by a specified deadline. The total quantity of sugar up for export exceeds 100,000 metric tons.
As per the schedule issued, the last date for submission of bids for sugar export has been fixed as September 28. All received bids will be opened on the same day, after which the export process will move forward following the completion of necessary formalities.
The government’s decision comes at a time when sugar was imported last year to meet domestic requirements. Now, a formal tendering process has been initiated to send a substantial stockpile of the imported commodity abroad.
With the TCP inviting e-bids, progress on the sugar export matter is expected. The next phases will become clearer after the bids are opened on September 28.
It is pertinent to mention that the tender covers the export of 107,739 metric tons of sugar, and bids must be submitted by the scheduled date to be considered for the process.
