Possible Start Date for Ramadan 2027 Emerges
ISLAMABAD: The possible start date for Ramadan 2027 has emerged, with astronomical calculations indicating that the holy month could begin on Monday, February 8, 2027. However, the final date will be determined after the sighting of the Ramadan crescent.
According to astronomical predictions, efforts to sight the Ramadan crescent will be made on the evening of Sunday, February 7, 2027, following the birth of the new moon. If the crescent is sighted, Taraweeh prayers are expected to begin that night, with Muslims observing their first fast the following day.
The Islamic calendar is based on the lunar cycle, with the lunar year approximately 11 days shorter than the Gregorian solar year. As a result, Ramadan arrives around 10 to 11 days earlier each year on the Gregorian calendar and moves through different seasons over time.
Under the expected schedule, Ramadan 2027 may begin on February 8, while Eid-ul-Fitr could fall on Wednesday, March 10, 2027, subject to the sighting of the Shawwal crescent. The dates may vary by one day depending on official moon-sighting decisions.
