Islamabad High Court Orders No Solitary Confinement for Imran Khan, Bushra Bibi
ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court has directed jail authorities not to keep PTI founder Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, in solitary confinement.
Justice Khadim Hussain Soomro disposed of petitions challenging the alleged solitary confinement of Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi, issuing several directions to the Adiala Jail authorities.
Alima Khan had approached the court against the alleged solitary confinement of Imran Khan, while Mubashira Khawar Maneka had filed a petition concerning Bushra Bibi.
In its decision, the Islamabad High Court directed jail authorities to facilitate a meeting between Bushra Bibi and Imran Khan. The Adiala Jail superintendent was instructed to ensure that neither of them was kept in solitary confinement.
The court also ordered that Imran Khan be allowed to meet his family in accordance with jail rules and be provided telephone access to speak with his sons.
The judgment directed jail authorities to provide Imran Khan with newspapers and books on a daily basis. It further ordered that he be provided medical facilities in accordance with prison rules.
The court said that if an audio recording of Imran Khan is misused, the facility could be withdrawn.
The Islamabad High Court declared the petitions maintainable in light of its decisions in the Nusrat Bhutto case and the Begum Shamim Afridi case. It directed the Adiala Jail superintendent to ensure compliance with the court’s orders and submit an implementation report within 15 days.
