Balochistan Assembly Witnesses Heated Exchange Over Asma Jattak Incident
QUETTA: A heated exchange broke out in the Balochistan Assembly during a discussion on the Asma Jattak incident, with lawmakers trading sharp remarks and the session briefly descending into disorder.
The situation became tense when MPA Ali Madad Jattak complained that women members of the assembly had not spoken about the incident. Opposition Leader Younas Aziz Zehri said he would not support the resolution if women lawmakers did not raise the issue concerning Asma Jattak.
Responding to the remarks, MPA Farah Azim Shah said the resolution concerned acid attacks and urged lawmakers not to politicize the matter.
Her remarks triggered a strong reaction in the house, with several members speaking simultaneously. The proceedings became chaotic for a while, with the assembly resembling a “fish market.”
MPA Shahida Rauf said that all women members had stood with Asma Jattak and continued to support her.
Subsequently, all women members of the assembly stood at their seats to express solidarity with Asma Jattak.
The uproar continued for some time, but lawmakers ultimately expressed solidarity with Asma Jattak and condemned incidents involving acid attacks.
