“‘It’s Going to Happen, the Moon Is About to Rise; Reset Agenda Will Not Stop, It Will Continue’: Sohail Waraich”

Islamabad: Senior journalist and renowned columnist Sohail Waraich has presented a striking analysis of major political and administrative changes in Pakistan, suggesting that a broader “reset agenda” is already underway and is unlikely to be halted.

In his latest column published in Daily Jang, Waraich wrote that the “horse of politics” had now broken free of the reins and the chess pieces had already been moved, making it impossible to return to the previous political situation.

He said a series of unusual developments, from the court’s order regarding the transfer of PTI founder Imran Khan to Shifa Hospital to subsequent events, had raised several new questions, while politics had broken out of stagnation and entered a period of rapid activity.

Discussing the federal government’s performance and statements regarding the “collapse of the system,” Waraich wrote that the incumbent federal government had already spent more than half of its tenure. Despite Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s efforts, he said, the government had neither been able to establish a strong political narrative nor demonstrate a clear path toward economic improvement.

According to Waraich, a federal minister’s remarks about the destruction of the existing system and the need for a reset were not merely a personal view but reflected a broader state-level thinking. He added that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), being aware of this thinking, had opted to remain silent for political reasons.

Waraich claimed that the process of reforms and fundamental changes to the existing system had begun and would not be stopped.

He said the proposed reset would be aimed at national development and could include the creation of new provinces as well as an increase in the federal government’s share of financial resources.

The senior columnist further claimed that the relevant documents and plans had already been prepared and that work on them was progressing rapidly.

He said the reforms were expected to begin during the current year, while their full implementation would start from next year.
