US Rejects Iran’s Claim That Hormuz Operation Was an Act of Aggression

Washington:The United States has rejected Iran’s claim that a US military operation against Iranian forces in the Strait of Hormuz constituted an act of aggression, calling the allegation completely false.

US Central Command (CENTCOM), in a statement posted on social media platform X, said American forces had carried out a limited and precise operation against Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) forces allegedly attempting to lay mines in the Strait of Hormuz.

According to CENTCOM, the Iranian forces’ activities posed an immediate threat to civilian vessels and international commercial shipping in the strategic waterway. The US military said it conducted the operation to eliminate that threat.

CENTCOM described the IRGC’s claim that the US action was an aggressive move as “completely false,” maintaining that the operation was intended to protect civilian mariners, commercial vessels and the freedom of global maritime trade.

US officials said the Strait of Hormuz is a critically important maritime route for international trade and energy shipments. Any attempt to lay mines in the waterway could disrupt shipping and have wider consequences for global commercial activity.

CENTCOM maintained that the threat was created by Iranian forces and that the US military acted to neutralize it. The command said the operation was aimed at ensuring the safe movement of commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz and maintaining the continuity of global trade.

Iran, meanwhile, has continued to express its position on the Strait of Hormuz and has described US military actions as contributing to heightened tensions in the region.

The latest conflicting statements between Washington and Tehran come as military activity and tensions surrounding maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz remain elevated.
