Iranian Parliament Speaker Calls for Muslim Unity, Regional Security Without Foreign Intervention
Tehran:Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has urged countries across the region to strengthen Muslim unity, saying that solidarity among Muslims has resulted in significant victories against their adversaries.
According to Iranian media reports, Ghalibaf said regional security would remain extremely weak if it depended on the presence and intervention of external powers.
He described Iran as a land of peaceful coexistence among different ethnic and religious groups, stressing that Sunni-Shia unity was not merely a symbolic slogan.
“Today, Sunni-Shia unity in Iran is not simply a formal slogan, but one of the foundations of national strength and an important asset for the country’s security and development,” he said.
Ghalibaf said that during the first, second and third wars imposed on Iran by its enemies, different religious communities and schools of thought had demonstrated solidarity, with all communities standing together against external threats.
He said the Muslim world was currently facing a historic turning point, adding that developments in the region in recent years had shown that Muslim nations and governments were increasingly recognizing that external powers and adversaries of Islam could neither provide lasting security for the region nor genuinely seek to establish it.
According to Ghalibaf, security based on the presence and intervention of powers from outside the region is fragile and dependent on others. In contrast, he said, security built on the will of Muslim nations and fraternal cooperation among regional countries could be stable, dignified and sustainable.
The Iranian parliament speaker said signs of this growing awareness could be seen in emerging regional alliances, cooperation and new arrangements. He suggested that these developments could mark the beginning of a new era in which Muslim neighboring countries rely on their own capabilities rather than external powers and choose cooperation and brotherhood over exhausting rivalries.
Ghalibaf further said that, particularly in light of recent developments, Muslim unity had produced victories against adversaries and enabled resistance to the positions and ambitions of powerful forces.
He expressed hope that the Muslim world would return more strongly to its shared identity and that stronger bonds of brotherhood would be established among Muslim nations.
Ghalibaf said he hoped the region would witness a new era of Islamic unity, sovereignty, security and dignity in which Muslims would determine their own destiny and no external power would be able to create divisions among them.
